It’s a last collar for hero Jax

A HARD-WORKING canine who holds the record for largest quantity of heroin and cash found by a police dog in Bedfordshire is retiring after six years of service.

Jax, an eight-year-old black Labrador, worked as a specialist drugs, firearms and cash sniffer dog for Bedfordshire Police.

After a successful career catching crooks he has now moved to a new home where owners describe him as one of the familiy.

New owner PC Craig Bennett said: “Jax came to live with my family in April and has settled straight in to our home. He is a typical Labrador – full of character, very playful and inquisitive. Because of the type of work Jax did he was well socialised and gets on very well with our other dog Harvey. My wife and children absolutely adore him.”

Jax, pictured with Harvey, worked in the police dog section before working at Luton Airport.

PC Bennett said: “Having worked at the airport for such a long time most of the staff knew him by name and made a fuss of him – he was always known as a bit of a celebrity and he’ll now spend the rest of his life living indoors, sleeping, playing and being spoilt rotten.”
