Melanie hopes to bowl judges over

A Miss Bedfordshire hopeful is running a half marathon to promote her charity work and show that beauty queens are more than just pretty faces.

Melanie Marshall, 20, is entering the competition for the third time, having been scouted by a pageant organiser while she worked at a local bowling alley.

The former Ashcroft High School student is supporting the charity Housing For Women, which provides services and housing for vulnerable women such as those who have suffered from abuse.

Melanie said: “I lost my mother at a young age so I have been more or less fending for myself in the last four years and I know what it’s like to worry about being a vulnerable woman with little or no support. But I think it has made me a stronger person and if I could help even just one person with the money I raise, I know it will have been worth it.”

Melanie said if she wins the title she will use it to “inspire and engage young people” and show “inner beauty reigns over outer beauty”.
