NICU race a family affair for Findlays

A family are putting on their running shoes to take part in the On Your Marks race for the NICU Appeal on October 7.

The Findlays ran in last year’s race too, just after premature baby Frankie Findlay spent three weeks in NICU at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital.

Although one-year-old Frankie is still too little to take part without the aid of his pram, he and his brother Freddie, four, will join in the Family Run after parents Joseph and Sam have completed the 10km.

Sam said: “Me and hubby will be doing the 10km and I’m putting together a team called ‘Frankie Says Relax’ to join us. Then we will do the family race with the boys afterwards. We felt like we wanted to do something that was more of a challenge this year and that we would have to work towards.

“Joseph drags me round training with him. I will probably be one of the last crossing the finish line but I’m not doing it as a race, I’m doing it to raise money.”

There’s 2km, 5km and 10km races to choose from, all starting at the Vauxhall Recreation Centre. All profits from the races will go to the NICU Appeal which helps premature and sick babies born at theL&D.

Sam said: “Frankie spent eight days in intensive care when he was born – he was really quite poorly at first. Everything NICU did for us...it was touch and go the first few days. If we hadn’t had NICU there we’d have been in serious trouble, and it was great being right on our doorstep too.”
