VIDEO: Wardown, the ‘jewel in the crown’ of Luton’s parks

Luton has many parks, but Wardown has been described by the council as the “jewel in the crown” of the town’s open spaces.

Wardown Park opened 110 years ago and still provides a green refuge within walking distance of the town centre.

It has a rich history and provides the setting for Wardown Park Museum, where the Luton News picture archive is kept.

The archive has an estimated 1.5 million images and we’ve dipped into it to present this slideshow or rare pictures showing the park in all its glory from the start of the 20th Century to the mid 1960s.
