Arndale? Mall? Point? Luton’s shopping centre changes its name again

Whether you call it The Mall or refuse to refer to it as anything other than the Arndale, Luton’s shopping centre has had another name change.

When it opened in 1972 as the Arndale Centre, it was Europe’s largest covered shopping centre and has remained a staple in the town ever since.

In 2006, it was renamed The Mall Luton after being bought by Capital & Regional.

Fast forward to 2023, Mark Ashley’s Frasers Group, which owns Sports Direct, House of Fraser, and Flannels, purchased the shopping centre for £58 million.

And in July 2024, it was given another new name, this time it was called Luton Point.

Now, the Frasers Group has “unified its property portfolio” and renamed the shopping centre again, calling it Frasers Plus Luton.

A spokesperson for the centre said: “Shoppers can expect the same great experience, with future improvements focused on offering greater value and personalised benefits for customers, enhancing the overall visit while keeping the centre rooted in the local community.”
