The bards of two nations

Literature organisation Poet in the City will explore the rise of prolific poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, known for his works on love, dignity and injustice. Contemporary voices including critic Amina Yaqin, author Aamer Hussein and poet Amarjit Chandan will discuss the work of the ‘Pakistani Shakespeare’ at the Hat factory at 2pm. Admission costs £10 for adults and £8 for concessions, with the session suitable for all ages.

T S Elliot Prize winner Don Paterson and Mimi Khalvati will examine of the timelessness of Shakespeare’s sonnets at the Hat Factory at 5pm. Admission costs £10 for adults and £8 for concessions, with the session suitable for all ages.

There is also a chance to join the ‘Poetry Parliament’ with Anthony Anaxagorou, Dean Atta, Caroline Bird and Deanna Rodger as they tackle issues from austerity to human rights, and everything in between. The session is also at the Hat Factory and starts at 3.45pm.

Poet in the City aims to creates new audiences for poetry, and works with leading UK and international poets, celebrated actors and experts from across the arts and beyond to present poetry in a new and dynamic way.

The sessions are part of the Lutonia literature festival, which runs until Saturday April 2.
