As the show enters its final few days at Milton Keynes Theatre, I was given a special backstage tour.

I thought my wardrobe was big, but at Wicked there is an entire ‘wardrobe village’ for the cast’s incredible costumes.

Company manager Anthony Field said: “Every costume is completely unique in each production of Wicked around the world. So the costumes on this tour are slightly different from those in any other version of the show.”

The costumes take months to create and wouldn’t look out of place on a (slightly bonkers) couture catwalk.

The wicked witch dress belonging to Elphaba (Nikki Davis-Jones) has over 40 yards of different fabric and the skirt alone takes three weeks to construct.

Glinda the Good (Emily Tierney) wears a fabulous bubble dress featuring 45 petals in the skirt. Each petal takes three days to bead and one-and-a-half days to sequin by hand. There are almost 100,000 sequins per costume.

This attention to detail is part of what makes the show so astounding, along with the props and scenery which are just as magnificent as the West End version.

Walking around backstage we caught glimpses of various bits and pieces from the show, but we were sworn to secrecy so as not to reveal any spoilers.

If you haven’t seen Wicked yet, don’t miss it at Milton Keynes Theatre until March 8. Even if you have seen the show before, this production’s unique costumes are not to be missed.
