At around 11.45pm, officers attended an incident on the A1081, between Harpenden and Luton, just south of the junction with Newlands Road, involving a black BMW.

The vehicle left the carriageway and collided with trees on the side of the road.

A passenger, a 28-year-old man from Luton, was pronounced dead following the collision.

The driver sustained minor injuries.

The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit has launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of the incident, and is appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information.

PC Helen Carpenter, investigating, said: “We would welcome assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the collision to get in touch with us.

“We’d also like to hear from you if you saw the black BMW before the incident, and if any drivers have dashcam footage of the area at the time, that may provide vital information for our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Bedfordshire Police on 101 or visit the force’s online reporting centre, quoting reference 407 of 18 November.
