Former Luton businessman Amer Nazir, 34, sets off from Stockwood Park on Saturday morning (February 28) to cycle round the world to help vulnerable children.
Money raised from the charity challenge will go towards building two orphanages, one in Pakistan one in the Middle East.
Amer, of Leagrave, who ran a chain of restaurants, has already raised £16,000 towards his £100,000 target for Mercy Worldwide Trust, an organisation he founded with a handful of friends eight years ago.
The humanitarian aid volunteer said: “My work has taken me to very poor and remote areas and I always notice how greatly the children are affected.
“It makes me feel so helpless – they can’t understand the situation they’re in and their loss and vulnerability are obvious when they look at you.
“I always try to play games with them, even just kicking a can around. It brings a glow to their faces and makes them forget their troubles temporarily.”
