Beavers explore Dunstable Downs

Fifty Beavers followed the jewelled walk across the Downs from the Gateway Centre, no mean feat as some Beavers said it was the furthest they had ever walked.

After a well-earned lunch the Beavers retraced some of their steps and took great delight climbing trees.

They then continued on to Chute Wood and had a go on the natural material obstacle course, which includes long planks, a see-saw and other obstacles to test their balancing skills.

Adult volunteer Jacky Sturrock said: “To see the young people exploring the woodland and enjoying themselves really gives you a real buzz.”

Some of the Beavers tried to build a bivouac, just in case Chief Scout Bear Grylls wanted to see if they were putting their knowledge to the tests.

At the end of the day they returned to the Gateway Centre for the presentation of certificates and to be given a National Trust booklet ‘50 things to do before you are 11¾”.
