Flight delays after Luton Airport evacuated due to fire alarm

Parts of London Luton Airport were evacuated after a fire alarm was activated yesterday.

Passengers were told to leave the airport “as a precaution” after a fire alarm sounded.

The airport initially said on Twitter: “Due to a fire alarm activation, parts of the terminal have been evacuated as a precaution.

“The cause of the activation is currently being investigated.

“Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience while this takes place.”

Around 40 minutes later, the airport confirmed on Twitter the fire alarm activation was a false alarm and passengers and staff were returning to the terminal.

The airport tweeted: “Thank you for your patience and co-operation.”

During the evacuation, pictures and videos circulated social media as passengers shared their frustration with the wait.

One said: “Stuck at Luton Airport. Sad.”

While another tweeted: “Stuck in #lutonairport arrivals tunnel very little comms and a few angry people.”

Passengers that had landed at the airport were also kept on board as the airport investigated the alarm.

One twitter user said: “Bored on the plane waiting for the passengers stuck in the terminal while other parts are being evacuated.”
