The Mall has paid homage to a loved and lost feature that is still remembered warmly by Lutonians today.
In a nod to its previous guise as the Arndale, the shopping centre has adorned the walls of Central Square and Bute Square with graphics of flamingos.
A large pink flamingo water feature was one of the most iconic landmarks in the heyday of the Arndale.
The town’s hat making history has also been remembered with a graphic on the wall in the main entrance of the shopping centre.
General manager Roy Greening said: “Over the past few years, we’ve worked hard at The Mall to modernise the shopping centre and provide better facilities for our shoppers, including the recent refreshment of our carparks, staircases and entrances as well as welcoming new stores and restaurants.
“As we refresh our look, we are re-affirming our credentials within the local community by bringing in local and historic memories that are widely recognised by our local visitors.
“We’re sure that our brand new flamingos are set to be greatly received by shoppers, and we once again recognise The Mall as a large part of the Luton community.”
