Busway work to close roads

A RAFT of road closures over the coming weeks to allow for work on the Luton Dunstable Busway have been announced.

Roads affected by the essential works include Hatters Way, where overnight work started on Monday night. The stretch between Dunstable Road and Chaul End Lane will be closed every night from 10pm until 5am until Friday (February 10) to allow for the installation of steel support columns for the new Clifton Road bridge.

A 50-metre stretch of Kingsway between Dallow Road and Laporte Way (under the Hatters Way Bridge) will be closed to weekend traffic from Friday, February 10 to Monday, February 13 from 10pm to 5am to allow for a new concrete deck to be poured on the bridge.

A short stretch of Dunstable Road between Telford Way and Hazelbury Crescent will be closed to overnight traffic from Monday February 13 until Friday February 17 to allow for removal of a bridge parapet. The public will still be able to access the petrol station and shops.

New Bedford Road will be changed from two-way to one-way traffic between Mill Street and Collingdon Street for six weeks from Monday, February 6 until Monday, March 19, for utility works and completion of the new junction.

Buses will only be able to travel towards Gordon Street and there will be no general vehicle access from Collingdon Street into Mill Street.

Diversions will be in place during all of the closures.

Luton Borough Council has also announced a programme of road closures for resurfacing over the coming weeks.

New Bedford Road will be closed between Alexandra Avenue and Stockingstone Road on Sunday, February 12 from 7am until 4pm.

Whipperley Ring will be closed from Monday, February 13 until Friday, February 17, from 8am until 6pm.

Hitchin Road will be closed between Hart Lane and Brunswick Street from Monday, February 20 until Friday, February 24 from 9.30am until 3.30pm.

Hitchin Road will be closed overnight between Hart Lane and Stockingstone Road from Monday, February 27 until Friday, March 2 from 8am until 5am.

Diversions will be in place and there will be no parking in affected roads during the closures.
