Can you shape the future of Bedfordshire Scouting?

SCOUTS in Bedfordshire are looking for an inspiring new County Commissioner to help them set the agenda for the future.

The 6,000 Beds Scouts need someone to shape the look of Scouting over the next five years.

As one of six county commissioners in the region the proactive individual will be involved in strategic planning at a national and regional level and managing those in charge of the nine districts.

Regional Commissioner for the six counties of East Anglia, Rob Lyons, said: “This is a senior position in the voluntary sector which will need an individual who can manage, support and advise the people who run the nine districts in the county.”

A full induction to Scouting will be offered to the commissioner, so no previous Scouting experience is necessary for the role.

A national and local website, a helpline to the national centre and employed staff will also be available to support the volunteer.

Mr Lyons said: “I expect the successful candidate will be managing adults or have volunteer management experience already.

“The individual we choose will enjoy the challenges of strategic planning and have the ability to develop both their own role and that of volunteers who make the movement so successful.

“Previous management experience or a management qualification is essential.”

There are nearly 5,000 Scouts in Beds and 1,000 adult volunteers and it is the responsibility of the County Commissioner to ensure every Scout has access to excellent quality Scouting.

To apply go to www.bedfordshirescouts.org.uk and complete the County Commissioner nomination form.

The closing date for nominations is March 11, 2011.
