Way back in 1998, Keech Hospice Care was nominated as the permanent charity for Toddington's Chalgrave Manor Golf Club captains.

Successive skippers have taken on the mantle of responsibility for continuing to raise funds and each June, at the Captain’s Day Dinner, the Club presents representatives from the hospice with the money raised that year.

Managing director Steve Rumball said: “We have on permanent display our running total and at the start of the current captain’s year in June 2015, it stood at £90,075.75.

“During the course of the current year, members have raised in excess of £10,000 and we have therefore broken through the £100,000 mark for Keech.”

This will be presented to the charity at the Captain’s Day Dinner on Saturday, June 11.

Regional fundraiser Banita Mistry said: “We’re so grateful to Chalgrave Manor Golf Club who have been long term supporters of the hospice.

“As the adult and children’s hospice of Bedfordshire, we care for 576 families across the county.

“Many people are surprised to hear we’re a charity and rely on the community for 70 percent of our funding.”
