Celebrate an extra day and go that extra mile for the L&D

TO celebrate 2012 being a leap year the Luton & Dunstable Hospital is encouraging local schools, businesses and hospital staff to do something extra and support the hospital’s baby unit on February 29.

Over 900 babies were treated at the L&D’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) last year but there are even more babies who need this specialist care.

The hospital has invested £7 million to build a new, bigger unit with more cots, state of the art equipment and improved facilities for babies and their families.

And the NICU Appeal has been launched to raise additional funds to help equip and enhance the new unit — ensuring staff can treat more premature and sick babies each year and save even more precious lives.

But they need your help to raise these essential funds by doing something extra-ordinary on February 29.

L&D staff and visitors will be going the extra mile for charity – literally – by measuring a mile long course at the hospital and charging £1 to walk around it at 12.45pm.

The hospital is also holding a bake sale on the day.
