Now, 45 years later, they’re one of more than 3,000 across the UK.
Director Marilyn Gearing said: “We were really pioneers.
“We take 30,000 calls every year. Many are about relationships – not just partners but parents, children and friends.
“And more and more are concerned with job prospects and debt problems.”
The team celebrated their 45th anniversary with a birthday bash to which former and current volunteers were invited.
