Change of plan on elderly flats

CAMPAIGNERS fighting to keep a sheltered accommodation scheme in Toddington say they have won the first battle, after a U-turn by Central Beds Council.

The council announced earlier this year that it wanted to close the Crescent Court flats, a move that would have meant elderly people seeking sheltered accommodation having to look outside the village.

But the council has now announced three options, all of which involve a scheme being retained in the village. A public meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 2, 7pm at Toddington Village hall.

Doug Dix, who has led the Friends of Crescent Court campaign, said: “We need as many people as possible to come along. Now we need to find the best option for the community.”
