Charlton boss Bowyer reveals centre half Lockyer is expected to join Luton

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer has revealed to the South London Press that centre half Tom Lockyer has reportedly agreed a move to Luton.

The 25-year-old Wales international joined the Addicks in June 2019 from Bristol Rovers, where he had made almost 300 appearances.

He featured 43 times for Charlton last term, including both matches against Town, scoring once during a 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion, as Bowyer's side dropped out of the Championship on the final day.

That result saw a relegation release clause in Lockyer's deal activated, and after missing today's pre-season friendly against Crystal Palace, Bowyer told the paper: “Tom came to me yesterday and said Luton had offered him a three-year contract, so that’s where he’s going.

“I’m not surprised that someone has tried to take him.

"He did well for us last year and he wants to stay in and around the Welsh squad with next summer coming up, that’s what he said.

“The only thing that surprised me is it took this long for someone to try and take him.

“He said there were a couple of others that were interested but they’d faded away.”

If the move does go through then Cardiff-born Lockyer would miss Town's Carabao Cup tie with Norwich City on Saturday as he is currently with the Welsh squad for their Nations League matches against Finland and Bulgaria.

He is in line to win his 11th cap for Ryan Giggs' side after also representing his country at U21 level.
