Storytelling, puppets and singing were some of the exciting activities presented by popular children’s author Julia Jarman when she visited Luton’s William Austin Infant School.
Reception pupils have been learning about colours and as the author has written several stories focusing on different shades – such as The Big Red Bath and The Big Blue Train, featuring rhyming patterns and alliteration – the school invited Julia to give four workshops throughout the day to help children in their learning.
Deputy headteacher Jo Johnson said: “Our children really enjoy Julia’s books which have been a great way to ignite their interest and learning about colours.
“They were really excited about meeting her and participated enthusiastically in all activities in the workshops. We certainly achieved our goal of sparking an interest in books and reading.”
Julia Jarman also held a book signing at the end of the school sessions attended by parents.
