Coronavirus latest: No new cases diagnosed in Luton for fourth day in row

The official number of diagnosed coronavirus cases in Luton remain at 666, with no new positive tests in the past four days according to Public Health England.

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire has 568 (+3) confirmed coronavirus cases and Bedford's figure remains at 531.

A plan to gradually scale back the lockdown was announced on Sunday, May 10, by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who told the nation that "at the earliest by June 1" some shops may open, and some school pupils (reception, year 1 and year 6) could return to school.

Leisure and hospitality services could open in early July if the number of coronavirus cases continue to decline.

Nationally, the number of coronavirus cases stands at 233,151 (includes tests carried out by commercial parties), rising by 3,446 since yesterday.

The number of Covid-19 related deaths in the UK has been recorded as 33,614, with 428 deaths reported today.

The figures for the number of patients recovered from the virus have not been released by Public Health England.

The true extent of infection among the wider public, who have no access to testing kits, is as yet unknown.
