Jan Michal Biliniewicz, then aged 32, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 19 years after killing wife Monika on September 22, 2010.

At 1pm on that day, police were called to the couple's house in Downs Road, off Ashburnham Road, to reports that a woman had been stabbed and suffered serious wounds to her head and chest.

The woman, later identified as 25-year-old Mrs Biliniewicz, was taken to the Luton & Dunstable Hospital but she tragically died soon afterwards.

Three hours later, police apprehended Biliniewicz standing on a bridge over the M1 near Newlands Road, while motorway traffic was stopped.

He was charged with murder and on January 31, 2012, pleaded guilty at Luton Crown Court on the same day he was due to stand trial.

After the case, Bedfordshire Police told media that the couple's six-year-old daughter had been living with relatives in Poland at the time of the murder.

Det Insp Jon Dick said: "This is a very sad case which has left a young girl parentless and a family bereft.

"While this man has admitted his guilt it will never bring Monika back."
