Attempted robbery on young student

An attempted robbery on a schoolboy has prompted the police to issue an appeal for witnesses to the attack.

The boy was walking along Ashcroft Road, Luton, opposite the Loco shop, when he was approached by a boy who grabbed hold of his jumper and stole his school bag before demanding his mobile phone – which the victim did not have.

The attacker dropped the school bag when he was approached by a member of the public, then left the scene in the direction of Crawley Green Road with two other boys.

Det Con Kerry Bearryman said: “This was a completely unprovoked incident on an innocent school boy.

“The offender is described as being black, in his early teens, of large build, and with short black hair and wearing a grey jacket.

“This type of behaviour is never acceptable and we’re keen to speak to anyone who may be able to help us find the person responsible.

“In particular I’m keen to speak to the woman who intervened.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Bearryman on 101, text 07786 200 011, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
