Beds Police officers to be investigated over paedophile Ian Watkins allegations

Two Beds Police officers have been served gross misconduct notices by the IPCC as part of its ongoing investigations into the handling of allegations against paedophile Ian Watkins.

The former Lostprophets singer was sentenced to 35 years in December for a string of child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby.

The IPCC is investigating Beds Police’s handling of information from a member of the public, who reported an allegation of child abuse against Mr Watkins to the force in October 2012.

As a result a sergeant and a constable have been served the notices, advising them that their conduct is under investigation.

They join three South Yorkshire officers and one South Wales officer to be scrutinised over conduct.

IPCC commissioner Jan Williams said: “We are making good progress with our three investigations, arrangements are being made to interview the officers in the coming weeks.”
