Peter Mendy, 62, of The Avenue, was caught driving his car on the Dunstable area of the busway on February 23 this year.

Last Wednesday, Luton Magistrates Court heard that he had consumed so much alcohol, the proportion in his breath was 97 microgrammes per 100 millileters.

The legal limit in England and Wales is 35 microgrammes.

Mr Mendy was banned from driving for two years and ordered to undergo an alcohol treatment programme. In addition, he must carry out up to ten days of rehabilitation requirement activity and pay costs of £260.

His driving ban can be reduced by 24 weeks if he completes an approved course by August 29 next year.

■ We understand that some people may be angry or upset to see their name published here but covering court cases acts as a deterrent against crime and it is important that justice is being seen to be done.

Under English Law, it is a general principle that criminal court proceedings for adults should be held openly and in public. Verdicts and sentences are normally given out in open court and so are in the public domain. Newspapers such as ours therefore have the right to publish outcomes of all such criminal court cases.
