Guilty plea for man who tried to kill '˜Mr Moon's' widow

A Polish man has admitted trying to murder a widowed shopkeeper in the same spot where her husband was killed nearly 7 years ago.

Tomasz Jaworksi, 30, pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of Nirupa Patel, 56, who was stabbed at Moon’s Newsagents in Park Street, Luton on Christmas Eve.

Jaworksi, who appeared at Luton Crown Court today/Weds via a video link from Bedford jail, also pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to two other people at the same time.

Mrs Patel’s husband Jashbai, 59, was murdered by Richard Dettmer on June 14 2009. Dettmer was jailed for life in December that year.

The case against Jaworski was not opened by prosecutor Daniel Siong.

Judge Richard Foster adjourned sentence for psychiatric and pre-sentence reports.

The judge said: “I want the report to address psychological and dangerousness issues.”

He remanded Jaworksi, of no fixed address, in custody. Sentence is due on 22 June.
