Luton dealer jailed for 20 months

Zion Selassie-Yoseph, of Binder Close, Luton, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and obstructing a police officer.

On 2 December, officers conducted a stop and search of Selassie-Yoseph and found 12 bags of cannabis.

This offence breached his suspended sentence for a previous conviction for possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine.

He was sentenced on Tuesday, February 11, at Luton Crown Court to 14 months for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, six months for possession with intent to supply Class B drugs, to run consecutively, and one month for obstructing a constable in the execution of their duty, to run concurrently.

In total, he will spend 20 months in a young offender institution.

Detective Constable Colin Knight, who investigated the case, said: “Selassie-Yoseph had already been handed a suspended sentence for drug dealing and has not learned from this experience, having again been found in possession of a substantial amount of drugs.

“He will now spend 20 months behind bars, where I hope he reflects on his actions and changes his ways.

“Dealing drugs can often be the driving force behind gangs, knife crime and other serious violence, which is why we will always deal with such offences robustly."
