Luton man charged after allegedly driving over 100mph on M1
A young man from Luton has been charged with allegedly driving dangerously on the M1 through several counties.
West Yorkshire Police first responded to reports of an Audi S3 which had apparently been seen driving at excessive speed, before handing it over to Derbyshire Police.
Officers saw the car on the M1 near Tibshelf, just before midnight on Sunday, April 25, and followed it.
The vehicle allegedly continued to drive at more than 100mph and officers on the ground were later joined by a police helicopter.
The Audi stopped in Theddingworth, Leicestershire, and four teenagers and a 19-year-old man were then arrested by officers from Leicestershire Police.
Two of the boys were aged 16 and another two aged 17. They were questioned and released under investigation while inquiries continue.
19-year-old Usman Kiani, of Cobden Street, Luton, was charged with failing to stop for the police, dangerous driving and driving without insurance.
He appeared before magistrates in Derby yesterday (Monday).
