Police close down suspected drugs den for three months

A suspected drugs den in Luton has been closed down by police, who obtained a court order from magistrates.

Officers from the Luton community policing team executed a warrant at a flat in Friesian Close following reports that it was being used as a drugs den, with people entering and leaving the property at all times of the day and night.

The premises was found to contain drug paraphernalia associated with the taking of class A substances.

Three people were arrested at the scene. Two were later released with no further action and one, a 47-year-old man from Luton, is currently on bail.

The team from Bedfordshire Police used powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 to shut down the property for a period of 48 hours, before applying to magistrates to have the property closed for three months.

The application was granted in order to help curb the issues in the area.

Community Inspector Berni White said: “We are proud to have once again made use of relatively new legislation to help make communities safer. Residents had described feeling harassed, intimidated and living in fear – the mistreatment of this property was affecting their quality of life. “Thankfully the courts have granted our application to disrupt any unruly activity at this location and the innocent people living nearby will no longer be affected by these issues.”
