'˜Substance' thrown in man's face on Luton street

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was injured when a substance was thrown in his face last week.

The incident happened as the man was walking along Leagrave Road in Luton on Thursday (19 May) at approximately 10.50am.

The man was approached by a man who engaged him in conversation before spraying him with an unknown substance, causing burns.

The offender then got into a Ford Fiesta which was being driven by someone else, and fled the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Detective Constable Catherine Layton, investigating, said: “This was an abhorrent attack which has left the victim with serious facial injuries. It happened in a public place so we’re appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact us, so that we can help identify the person responsible.”
