Teens arrested after man stabbed in street

A group of teenagers from Houghton Regis and Dunstable have been bailed following an incident in which a man was stabbed several times.

The man was driving along Clarence Road in Leighton Buzzard on Saturday evening when a woman stopped in front of the car and refused to move.

The 38-year-old man got out of the car to ask the woman to move and was then approached by a large group of people who were armed with various weapons.

The victim was stabbed several times and was able to drive away to a place of safety before alerting emergency services.

He was taken to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital in a serious but not life threatening condition.

A police investigation was launched and six people were subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

A 13-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy and two 15-year-old boys all from Houghton Regis, along with a 15-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy from Dunstable have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and have been bailed pending further enquiries until 26 April.

Additional police patrols are being carried out in Leighton Buzzard today (Monday) following the incident.

Chief Inspector Sean Quinn said: “This incident has understandably caused worry and distress to the people of Leighton Buzzard. However, I would like to assure the community that we are doing everything possible to get to the bottom of this.

“Violence of any type is never acceptable and we have a heightened police presence in the town following this incident to help prevent further disorder and provide reassurance to members of the community.

“If anyone has any information that could assist the investigation, or if they have concerns and would like to speak to an officer, I’d encourage them to contact us on 101 and ask to be put through to a member of the community south policing team.”

Witnesses are asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 285 of 5 March.
