Thieves steal churchgoers’ safe

Police are appealing for information after an elderly couple returned from church to find their Luton home had been burgled.

Offenders stole a large safe containing jewellery and a substantial amount of cash from the home in Lalleford Road while the couple were out between 2.30pm and 7pm on Sunday (6 December).

Detective Constable Rachel Lydon said: “This was a horrible crime where the offenders have targeted a vulnerable couple when they were out of the house.

“It has left them devastated, especially happening so close to Christmas.

“The safe was very large and required four people to carry when it was initially installed so I’m sure people will have seen it being taken away.

“I would urge anyone with any information to call police.”
