Two people were arrested after a car chase that ended in a crash in Luton last night.

Police officers started pursuing the car in Beechwood Road at 12.30am when the men refused to stop for an officer and drove away at high speed.

The offending vehicle - a Vauxhall Vectra - drove down Stuart Street the wrong way and officers from the Beds, Herts and Cambs Roads Policing Unit had to slow the chase in order to keep other road users safe.

They caught up with it in Crawley Green Road where the driver tried to ram the police vehicle before crashing into the garden wall of a property.

Two men in the car aged 22 and 26 were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, possession with intent to supply class A drugs (cocaine) and other road traffic offences.

They are in custody and are being questioned by police.

Det InspIain Morgan, who leads the Serious Crime Investigation Team, said: “This was a real team effort with officers from our collaborated units all working together to ensure these people were stopped. These people clearly had no regard for the safety of other road users and as a result of the tenacity and skill shown by the officers involved in the pursuit these men will now face the full force of the law.”

Anyone with information relating to this investigation can contact investigating officer, Det Con Mark Bryce, in confidence, at Bedfordshire Police on 101, or text information to 07786 200011.
