Two Luton men appear in court on terror charges

Junead Khan, aged 24 years, and 22-year-old Shazib Khan, both of Marlow Avenue, Luton, have been charged this morning with two counts of being involved in the preparation with the intention to commit acts of terrorism.

They will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

The charges state that Junead Ahmed Khan and Shazib Ahmed Khan between 1 August 2014 and 10 May 2015 with the intention of committing acts of terrorism engaged in conduct in preparation for giving effect to that intention contrary to section 5(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2006.

Also that Junead Ahmed Khan between 10 May 2015 and 14 July 2015 with the intention of committing acts of terrorism engaged in conduct in preparation for giving effect to that intention contrary to section 5(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2006.

The two men were arrested under the Terrorism Act on Tuesday, 14 July. A third man, in his 30s, was also arrested and released without charge yesterday evening.

Officers from the UK’s national counter terrorism network, led by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) and supported by colleagues from Bedfordshire Police and Eastern Counter Terrorism Intelligence Unit, carried out the operation.

The three men were arrested in raids last Tuesday.
