Would-be arsonist smashes window of Luton home and pours accelerant with lighted paper

A victim was left "shaken" after an arson attempt on their Luton home this week.

Emergency services were called to Dewsbury Road, Luton, at around 2.15am on Tuesday, May 11, to a report of a smashed window.

Officers learned the offender had poured accelerant into the victim's home along with a lighted piece of paper, then fled in the direction of Catherall Road.

The offender was wearing dark clothing.

DS Richard Marshall said: “This incident could have had tragic consequences, and has understandably left the victim really shaken up.

“We are following up lines of enquiry and I am now keen to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously.”
