During the incident, a house was burgled in the Oldhill area of the town and a mobile phone and two vehicles from outside the front of the property were stolen.

Thankfully the victim was able to track her phone using GPS, providing Bedfordshire Police with a real-time commentary of its location.

Following a short pursuit by officers and involving the support of the police helicopter and the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Dog Unit, the juveniles were discovered hiding in undergrowth.

The trio attended youth court at Luton Magistrates’ Court on Friday where two 15-year-old boys admitted counts of burglary and aggravated vehicle-taking, while one 16-year-old boy pleaded guilty to burglary, aggravated vehicle taking and driving without a valid licence or valid insurance.

The two 15-year-olds were bailed while the 16-year-old was remanded into custody, pending sentencing on 30 August.

Detective Constable Guy Steel-Jessop said: “This was an excellent bit of collaborative working involving numerous specialist resources, which ultimately led to the arrest of three offenders who’ve admitted their role in this callous break-in. Frighteningly, the victim was actually in the property at the time of the offence, but thanks to her quick reporting to police and the ability to track her phone we were able to act swiftly to apprehend the youths.
