Cycletta winners to get on their bikes

THE winners of our competition to win free places in the first women-only bike ride on September 11 have been drawn.

Colette Marchant, Sylvia Castleman, Jennifer Smith, Pauline Maitai, Hayley Kelly, Natasha Morley, Pat Shirley, Jenny Dean, Sarah Blackburn and Ruchita Sarvaiya will be joining thousands of women getting in the saddle to cycle the 40km route, which starts and ends at Whipsnade Zoo.

They all have different reasons for wanting to join in and over the next few weeks we will be finding out more about their motivations and how the all-important training is coming along.

Sylvia, who will be taking part with her daughter Jennifer, said: “We have both been riding bikes but not for some time and are very rusty. We love the idea of cycling on traffic-free roads at our own leisure.”

Some of the Cycletta treats that the ladies will enjoy include safe traffic-free roads, a helmet hair remedy centre, a massage centre, mechanical and medical support, drinks and feed stations and a Ride Rescue support crew around the course.

The camaraderie with fellow female cyclists is another reason many of our winners cited for wanting to take part.

Pat Shirley said: “I am a bike rider and have been for the last 50-odd years, but tend to cycle on my own as very few of my friends are cyclists. About 20 years ago I did a charity ride of 250 miles in Northern France which was fantastic and since then have not been able to get on a group ride so Cycletta sounds like great fun.”
