Social enterprise boss Dawn Hewitt is on a mission – to find 100 mentors to help vulnerable children and young people in Luton.

The CHUMS chief executive believes every child can have a positive future, provided they have the right support. She’s now looking to recruit ordinary folk like students, senior citizens, mums who work from home and anyone who believes passionately in their local community.

She said: “Lots of people don’t think they can have an impact, but they can. They think they don’t have the time, but they do. We all have something to contribute, we can all make a difference.

“By wrapping a therapeutic approach alongside a mentor, we can help them develop the skills to flourish.

“And with a programme of support in place, we can help those young people to believe in themselves and give them a positive future.”

The new service will be aimed at youngsters aged between five and 25. Training and support will be given and volunteers will help with practical issues.
