Demanding trek leads to DofE gold
The 19-year-old of St Ethelbert’s Avenue also had to volunteer, learn a skill, get fit and take part in a week-long residential course.
He was presented with his coveted award at St James’s Palace.

Hide AdArshad said: “What I enjoyed most was the expedition to Snowdonia. We managed to navigate through the rough terrain and reach the camp site – eventually! – for a well-deserved supper.
“It is a fantastic opportunity to do something different, make new friends and take on a real challenge in a completely new environment.” He added: “ The DofE experience will help me progress in future because it has increased my self-confidence and the skills we gained can all be transferred to the work place.”
The Duke of Wessex was at the presentation ceremony.
