Don’t miss the change to the national electoral registration

Residents will be receiving letters this week telling them about the change to the national electoral registration system.

The letter will let them know if they need to do anything to make sure they are included on the new, more secure system of Individual Electoral Registration.

Electors on the current electoral register will be automatically added to the new individual register after their name and address was accurately matched against existing government records.

For those where this matching was not possible, such as students and other people who have recently changed address, this can be done using the new online registration option.

Luton Borough Council chief executive Trevor Holden said: “These changes make sure that everyone can register to vote securely as well as add their names to the register in the simplest possible way.”

If you do not receive a letter by the end of August, call your council or visit www.gov.uk/yourvotematters.
