Trainee pilot Adam Deacon took to the skies on his first '˜pilot flying' experience to Alicante with a very special passenger on board '“ his dad Mark, a long-serving employee of Luton-based airline Monarch.

The navigation services administator from Polegate said Adam had wanted to be a pilot since his first flight on a family holiday to Menorca at the tender age of five.

He added: “Adam never wavered in his interest. He joined the Air Cadets at 13, then headed straight to CTC Aviation.

“It was a proud moment when he was one of six pilots taken on by Monarch last year and an even prouder one to be there for his first official flight.”

Adam, 21, said: “I never wanted a standard nine-to-five job. There’s so much variety in commercial flying and of course you get an amazing view from the office window.

“Dad and I have come full circle - from all those years of him encouraging me through my training to finally being able to welcome him on to my first commercial flight.”
