Four juveniles have been arrested and released on bail pending further investigations after a fire in a derelict old people’s home.

Sherd Lodge, in Sherd Close, Luton, suffered 25 per cent damage after a fire in the first floor spread to the roof yesterday (June 15).

Four fire engines from Luton, Dunstable, Stopsley and Leighton Buzzard attended the blaze which enveloped the 14 by 15 m building.

Teams used 11 sets of breathing apparatus, an aerial platform and thermal imaging camera.

A police spokeswoman said it was being treated as suspicious.

Bed Fire service also attended a fire last night at another derelict building at 27 Dunstable Place, Luton, the site of a former night club.
