He’s undergone 15 gruelling rounds of chemotherapy but nothing will stop former Luton fireman Ben Markus from making music.

The father-of-four said: “It’s been tough. The cancer has spread to my back which means treatment has moved up a gear.”

But it hasn’t stopped him planning the release of a free album entitled Aurora, available for download at The Markus Band website –

“We’re hoping people will donate a few coins to cancer research, but it’s purely voluntary,” he said.

“It’s something I’ve been thinking about since I was first diagnosed with prostate cancer and given only a year to live.”

The album is available now, charting the band from their first PYE deal in 1983 to their current 2014 Going Home album. There are links to the original artwork and stories behind all 13 tracks.

Ben’s autobiography, New Jersey Exile, details his life as a firefighter, his battle with cancer and how music has been a healing force all along.
