Fun-packed way to celebrate our Saint

The Patron Saint of England will be celebrated in Luton with a free fun day for all the family.

Luton Borough Council is inviting residents to celebrate St George’s Day in town on Saturday, April 23.

St George’s Square will come alive from 11am until 5pm with a day of entertainment and activities in the public square named after the Saint.

Activities include a circus workshop, punch and Judy, water zorbing and climbing wall, along with Morris and traditional English dancing.

There will also be a special St George stilt walker and balloon artist - with his dragon - to entertain the kids, flag decorating and sword, shield and hat crafting.

London Luton Airport Ltd (LLAL) has offered to sponsor the day.

The event is being supported by Luton in Harmony. Bedfordshire Police, as part of Luton in Harmony, will be hosting ‘Tea in the Town’ where tea, cake and conversation will be available between noon and 2pm.

Councillor Andy Malcolm, Chair of London Luton Airport Limited, said: “We really value the support we get from the people of Luton which is why we like to get behind events such as this. This is a great opportunity for local families to get together to celebrate our Patron Saint.”

Cllr Jacqui Burnett, Portfolio Holder for people and places, said: “St George’s story is an interesting part of our heritage and I am sure that this event will give everyone young and old the opportunity to have a good day celebrating our ancient English traditions.”
