Heavy snow on the way for Luton?

Residents preparing for a ‘big freeze’ and weeks of snow will be relieved, or perhaps disappointed, to hear the weather in Luton and Dunstable will not be so dramatic.

Local weather forecaster Philip Eden said there will be a short cold spell, though temperatures are not likely to fall below -5°C.

Mr Eden said: “The national papers always over-egg the pudding. We will have some light sprinkles of sleet or snow on Saturday evening and Monday evening, and perhaps a rather heavier spell of snow on Wednesday evening, before the weather turns a bit milder and very disturbed (often wet and windy) from Thursday onwards. Snow in January is, of course, entirely normal.”

Mr Eden said another cold spell is on the cards before the end of January.
