Help for NEETs

The Mayor of Luton attended an event promoting young people’s training at The Mall in Luton today (August 28).

Mayor Syd Knight was joined by Luton South MP Gavin Shuker, to show their support for Foundation Learning, a government-funded course for 16-19 year olds not in education, employment or training (NEET).

The aim of Foundation Learning is to increase skills and employability levels of young people in England, which is particularly important as there are currently more than a million young people unemployed in England.

A Foundation Learning spokesperson said: “As part of our foundation learning course we offer young people the chance to develop their personal and social skills while working towards accredited and nationally recognised qualifications in English, maths and a range of BTECs. Our course is based around the needs of the learners and also offers the option of work placements for suitable candidates and a direct pathway into gaining an apprenticeship also.”

The Foundation Learning team will be at Nelson Square in The Mall again tomorrow for people to find out more, refer eligible young people or sign up themselves.
