There will be an exciting opportunity for local actors and wannabes to learn how to present themselves to entertainment business VIPs when MonologueSlam comes to Luton for the first time in May.
Run by Revolution Arts, the event gives potential actors from all backgrounds a chance to showcase their talent to industry professionals such as casting agents.
There’s an introductory workshop at Luton’s Hat Factory tonight (March 31) from 6pm to 8pm, when aspiring stars can pop along for information and advice.
MonologueSlam is open to everyone but it’s expected audition slots on April 15 and 16 will quickly fill when they’re announced nationally on Saturday (April 2).
A total of 22 actors from the Luton auditions will then perform one or three minute monolgues at the MonologueSlam UK showcase at Luton Library Theatre.
It takes place on Friday, May 20, and will be hosted by popular Holby personality Chizzy Akudolu, who plays surgeon Mo Effanga in the BBC1 series.
Winners will go up against other regional finalists to be crowned national champion in the MonologueSlam final in London.
Revolution Arts spokeman and former EastEnders director Topher Campbell said: “You will be seen by top agents and this could be the kickstart of a career in acting.”
He added it was the first of many events being planned for Luton, including a three day music festival with high profile headliners and lots of community participation.
