Indomitable courage of brave cancer mum

TODDINGTON mum-of-six Maggie Thomas may have a multiplicity of tumours but death is the farthest thing from her mind.

“I’m looking forward to my 99th birthday,” she smiled before having the largest tumour in her right lung removed with keyhole surgery at Charing Cross Hospital this week.

Her commercial photographer husband David said: “We were disappointed they only did one. But they’ve never done this procedure before on someone whose cancer has spread to the brain.”

Maggie, who was David’s childhood sweetheart, recently spent three weeks in a German clinic offering cutting edge hyperthermia treatment to blast the tumours with heat.

The couple have spent their life savings and remortgaged their home in a desperate attempt to save her life. And they are so grateful to generous Herald&Post readers who have been donating all they can.
