Luton born and bred, Jim, 55, joined the retailer as a lad of 18.

During that time, he has many happy memories – including meeting the Archbishop of Canterbury when he visited The Mall in 2015, the opening of the new M&S store in 2009 and the air raid shelter in the old one.

But his best memories are of the friends he’s made over the years and meeting his partner Julie. They’ve been together 11 years and started working together more than 15 years ago.

Jim said: “I’ve enjoyed my time at M&S enormously but I’m looking forward to travelling a bit. I’m heading to the east coast of Canada soon, I want to finish doing my kitchen and may even take up caddying for a friend who plays golf.”
