Kind Cahal’s fund-raising for family

A serial fundraiser from Caddington will complete his latest long-distance in aid of his father-in-law, who is being treated for prostate cancer at Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

Cahal McConville, 47, has run hundreds of miles – raising thousands of pounds – for various causes including Children With Leukaemia, Sight and Sense.

Now the Dunstable Road Runners member, of Elm Avenue, will tackle the Dunstable Downs 10k on Saturday, March 10 for the Macmillan nurses that are looking after Michael Rayner.

Cahal – whose own father Frank died of lung cancer 18 years ago – used his brother as motivation when he ran his first London Marathon.

He said: “I had a picture of him on the front of my shirt and talked to him on the way round – he helped me through it.

“If you’re in that last mile and don’t start crying you haven’t got a heart. It’s amazing. The people, the atmosphere – I’m getting goosebumps just talking about it.”
